07/05/2009

Herber Hainer, adidas Group CEO and president, has announced that the company is to keep investing in Argentina and plans to open 15 new points of sale in the country in the near future. It is hoped the outlets will generate around 100 new jobs. The firm already has 35 shops in the country.

"Difficult times generate opportunities and we must take advantage of this situation," Mr Hainer said. In Latin America, adidas is the leading sports brand and has doubled its growth rate compared with the rate reported five years ago.

"Argentina is a country with a passion for sports and a key market for us," said Mr Hainer.

The main manufacturer of adidas products in Argentina is the Chivilcoy factory run by Brazilian company Paquetá, where both footwear and apparel are produced.

"Our business here has had a very strong and healthy growth process in the last few years," confirmed Walter Koll, president of adidas Argentina.
