12/05/2009

Speedo was presented with two Sport Industry Awards on April 30 in London. The first was the sport brand of the year award, presented by boxer James DeGale and track cyclist Victoria Pendleton. The second was the technological innovation in sport award presented by Formula One racing driver Jenson Button.

According to Speedo, the panel of industry experts and sporting authorities behind the awards said that “few innovations in the history of sportswear have had the market impact that Speedo’s LZR Racer swimsuit has achieved in 2008”. Since the launch of the suit, 83 world records have been broken by athletes wearing the suit.

David Robinson, global president of Speedo, said: "2008 was an amazing year for Speedo with groundbreaking developments and achievements accomplished by the brand and swimmers alike. Launching the Speedo LZR Racer, the world’s fastest swimsuit, together with great success at both the ninth FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in
Manchester and the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, all made for a phenomenal 80th anniversary year for Speedo.”
