Court hearing for Gottex
According to reports, Israel-based swimwear firm Gottex is currently standing trial for alleged smuggling for the purpose of tax evasion at the Rishon LeZion Magistrate's Court. The company’s former deputy chief executive, Meir Guer, and purchasing director, Eti Levy, are reportedly giving evidence in the case.
It is alleged that, between 2003 and 2006, the firm shipped textiles to Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria and had it cut and sewn in these countries. However, the prosecution claims the base fabrics had been manufactured elsewhere and that the company was knowingly taking advantage of trade agreements with these countries.
The tax authority claims the company owes approximately six million shekels ($1.5 million) in tax.
A company spokesman denies any criminal involvement on the part of the company.
