Rockport shoes for Spanish sailing team
The Rockport Company is to be the official footwear supplier for Spain’s Telefónica Sailing Team until December 2010. Telefónica has entered two boats named Blue and Black in the 2008-09 Volvo Ocean Race.
Rockport presented the 22 sailors on the team with special edition boat shoes to wear as they depart Boston, Massachusetts, on May 15 and embark on the final stretch of the Volvo Ocean Race. The shoes is a restyle of the company’s HydroPlex boat shoe, featuring Hydromotion technology, which facilitates water drainage. The new design features the teams’ colours, one blue and one black, along with the Telefónica logo.
“Rockport offers the perfect boat shoe for sailing because it quickly and seamlessly drains water and the rubber outsole offers great traction even on the slippery surfaces of our boat,” said Bouwe Bekking, sports and technical director and commander of the Telefónica Blue boat, which is currently ranked second in overall standings.
