FiberVisions voices environmental argument
05/06/2009
FiberVisions, one of the world’s largest producers of polyolefin staple fibres, has said in the build-up to Techtextil that it is continuing to broaden its portfolio with the addition of new and differentiated products.
The company entered the apparel market with CoolVisions, a disperse dyeable polypropylene fibre that has proved attractive to fabric manufacturers, especially those supplying the sports and outdoor market, because of qualities such as its softness, durability, breathability, capacity to offer permanent stain-resistance and thermal insulation.
In a recent statement, the company's director of business technology, Dr Prashant Desai, also spoke of the environmental appeal of FibreVisions products. He said: “Of the major synthetic fibres, polyolefins are the only ones which begin as a co-product, with lower greenhouse gas emissions and lower energy use than other fibre resins. Polyolefin fibres are clean burning and have a very high calorific value when incinerated as part of a mixed waste stream, providing a high energy value for the amount of CO2 emitted during incineration.”
