Hyosung to focus on sustainability, durability, and performance

Nylon, polyester, and spandex fibre producer Hyosung has announced that it will work with partner companies to introduce a series of new fabrics at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market.

The Korean manufacturer emphasised that the new fabrics it is helping mills produce are eco-friendly, long-lasting and abrasion resistant.

MIPAN regen recycled nylon and Regen recycled polyester are made from post-consumer material thereby reducing waste, carbon emissions, and petroleum. Mill Partners such as Samsung trading, Mikwang, ST Onechang, Pucheon, Paka and Spotec will feature fabrics for backpacks, outerwear, and active apparel using these recycled yarns. Program adoptions include Nike, Quiksilver, Klattermusen, The North Face, Columbia, Golite, and Timberland. And new for summer is women and children’s swimwear by Eco-Panda.

As consumers are spending less in general, Hyosung said, they want their purchases to last so durability is becoming more and more important. MIPAN Robic high tenacity yarns deliver higher abrasion resistance, higher tensile and tear strength, and lasting durability for outerwear, luggage, and back packs than normal nylon or polyester.

For UV protection in running, cycling, triathlon, and hiking, Hyosung offers Askin polyester with built-in moisture management and a high level of opacity and cover for waterproof and windproof protection. Mipan fine denier nylon is ideal for the trend to lightweight packable shells while MIPAN Air is a hollow core nylon fibre for insulating warmth in rugged fabrics.

Compression for running and fitness apparel continues to be important; Prizma cat dye polyester with Creora spandex are examples of products that can offer this functionality and will also be on display at the Salt Lake City event from July 21-24. Moisture management fabrics will be featured with Aerocool nylon and polyester and antimicrobial performance made with Aerosilver polyester and Magicsilver nylon and polyester.
