New talent takes to merino
24/06/2009
Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) partnered with the Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC), at Hong Kong Polytechnic, the Special Administrative Region’s most prestigious design school, to showcase merino wool in contemporary design at the institute’s annual graduate fashion show in June.
AWI sponsored two awards–the Woolmark Platinum Award and the Flinders Merino and AWI Platinum Award, co-sponsored by Australian wool grower Flinders Merino.
It’s the third year in which AWI has supported the awards, which aim to inspire and educate students about merino wool and encourage them to use the natural fibre in their collections.
There were 24 graduating students this year.
Both AWI-sponsored awards required the students to create a collection comprising approximately 80% Australian merino wool. The Woolmark Platinum Award went to Gallery Tam, while the winner of the Flinders Merino and AWI Platinum Award was Sammul Ng.
