Kukri makes beach polo deal

Sportswear brand Kukri has agreed to be the official kit sponsor of the British Beach Polo Championships 2009 which will be held in Poole on July 10 and 11. The kit designers will provide the strips for the six teams competing.

This will be a first for Kukri; the Lancashire-based team-sports specialist, which has been offering options in 36 different fabrics and in 22 different colours to rugby, netball, rowing, hockey and lacrosse for the past 10 years, has never designed apparel for polo teams before.

Business development manager, Scott Gamble, said he thought the move into polo was an exciting development. “It’s a very physically demanding sport and the clothing needs to be resilient enough to cope; our kit will definitely be able to rise to the challenge," he added. "We have no doubt that the teams will look stunning in the Kukri polo shirt range.”

Event organiser, Johnny Wheeler, said: “It’s great to have Kukri on board. They’ve got loads of experience in providing top quality sports kit and I’m sure they’ll do a great job."
