Textile exports from Pakistan fall

Textile exports from Pakistan fell in the period from July 2008 to May 2009, the first 11 months of the financial year there. Compared to the same period for the previous financial year, the decline in textile exports is 9.5%.
Official data from the Federal Bureau of Statistics puts earnings from textile exports for the financial year so far at $8.7 billion.
Exports of raw cotton from the country during the period under review increased by 27%. More than 76,000 tonnes of raw cotton have been exported from Pakistan over the 11 months, bringing in export revenues of $83.5 million. However, exports of cotton yarn, a much more important product for Pakistan, slipped by 15% to earn just over $1 billion.
