Sustainable production the focus at OutDoor
Sustainability has become a hot topic within the outdoor industry. In fact, according the organisers of OutDoor, which will be held July 16-19 in Friedrichshafen, Germany, it has become more than a point of discussion; it has actually spurred on change. As a result, sustainability will be one of the key themes at the show. Another major theme will be product longevity.
A number of exhibitors at the fair are committed to producing products that will last and to producing goods in a sustainable way. Claes Broqvist, Haglöfs director of sales and marketing Europe, says sustainability is: “fundamental and not simply cosmetic, an opportunity and not a burden”, while Klaus Schmitz of Berghaus Germany says: “High-quality products, which are used over a long time, are superior to short-lived products, which are subject to the whims of fashion.”
Around a dozen companies attending the show have already committed themselves to the bluesign standard. Among them are Patagonia, The North Face, Vaude, Deuter, Mammut, Haglöfs, Helly Hansen and Ortlieb.
