Designer Textiles adds extra performance
New Zealand-based Merino wool specialist Designer Textiles International has created Tech LITE and Tech Fit, two fabric groups that build on Merino’s qualities to create sport-specific high performance fabrics.
Made from a double-jersey construction with Merino next to the skin and a lightweight polyester outer layer, TechLITE is a super lightweight fabric weighing as low as 130 grammes per square-metre, enabling performance and comfort in Merino all year round.
As athletes demand greater performance from their garments, fabrics have altered and been developed to meet these new levels. Compression fabrics have answered some of these demands, giving athletes greater muscle compression, restricting muscle vibration and the resulting dissipation of energy during activity.
To bring the concept of compression into Merino, Designer Textiles International has also created Tech FIT fabrics.
Made from a double-jersey construction with the performance properties of Merino against the skin, nylon on the exterior with a high concentration of Spandex integrated into the construction, TechFIT has an elasticity that Designer Textiles claims is “previously unseen in Merino”.
Tech FIT restricts muscle vibration and maximises the performance of the wearer, while wicking moisture away from the body and maintaining the core body temperature at its optimal level.
The new fabrics will be on show at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2009.
