Uphill climb for Vietnam’s textile exporters

13/07/2009

According the Vietnam’s industry and trade ministry, the textile sector will have to step up the pace in the second half of the year if it is to meet export targets. The sector’s export turnover must rise 3% if it is to achieve its goals.

However, while the country’s total export earnings for the first six months of 2009 fell 10.1% year-on-year, textile and garment exports fell just 1.3% to $4 billion.

While exports to its most significant export destinations including the US, Japan, China and Australia have plummeted, exports to Africa have risen dramatically.
