Globetrotter managing directors Andreas Bartmann and Thomas Lipke have been named joint OutDoor Celebrities of the Year 2009.

The award is designed to reward the commitment and dedication displayed by representatives within the outdoor industry. The award will be presented for the fourth time during this year’s OutDoor show, which runs July 16-19 in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

Globetrotters, described as northern Germany’s first specialised retail outlet for expeditions, safaris, survival, trekking, was founded by Klaus Denart and Peter Lechhart in 1979. It now has stores in Hamburg, Berlin, Dresden, Frankfurt, Bonn and Cologne. Its range now comprises around 25,000 products.

In 1980, as young students, Mr Bartmann and Mr Lipke worked part-time in the Globetrotter store and slowly grew into the business as the business grew. At the beginning of the 1990s, both joined the company as managing partners. In doing so, they turned their hobbies into professions and have been the driving force in the development of the company ever since. Mr Lipke is currently responsible for sales, HR and IT, while Mr Bartmann is in charge of purchasing and finance.
