Esquel uses Merino for added softness

20/07/2009

Hong Kong-based Esquel Group has introduced Australian Merino wool into a range of cotton yarns to give its trans-seasonal garments a softer and more luxurious feel.

Blending Australian Merino wool and cotton, with the help of Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), Esquel has created yarns that are said to be softer to the touch and more comfortable to wear than 100% cotton. The yarns are also lighter and offer greater breathability, more elasticity and better UV protection.

The company has blended Merino wool grown in
Australia with its extra long staple cotton grown in China
to create 90/10, 80/20, 70/30 and 45/55 cotton/wool blend yarns, known as Comerino.

AWI’s general manager key accounts and innovation Jimmy Jackson says: “The Comerino yarns are ideal for trans-seasonal garments, casual and outdoor fashion and men’s and womenswear.”

The range will launch at Spin Expo in New York on July 20-22.
