Higher sales at Geox

Italian casual shoe manufacturer Geox has posted improved results for the first half of 2009.

Consolidated sales for the first half rose 4% to EUR482.9 million. Footwear sales represented 91% of consolidated sales, totalling EUR438.3 million, a 1% increase compared with the first half of 2008. Apparel sales accounted for 9% of sales, totalling EUR44.6 million, a 43% increase.

Italy continues to be the remains the group’s main market accounting for 36% of sales (37% in the same period of 2008) totalling EUR175 million, a 3% increase compared to first half 2008.

Europe generated 46% of sales (48% in the same period of 2008) totalling EUR222.3 million. North American sales grew 20%, while sales to all other countries grew 21%.

Chairman and founder, Mario Moretti Polegato, said: “I am pleased with the fact that, in the first semester of 2009, Geox Group sales rose by 4%, at a time when consumer spending is falling all around the world.”

He added: “I believe that Geox FY sales will be broadly in line with those of 2008.”
