Teijin to end polyester filament production in Japan after 50 years
06/08/2009
Fibre manufacturer Teijin is to terminate the production of polyester filament in its home country, Japan.
The Teijin Group announced that it would terminate all operations related to polyester filament and polyester staple fibre, with the exception of research and development, at the Matsuyama plant in Ehime, where Teijin’s polyester fibres business was first established in 1958.
The company will shift production of polyester filament and staple fibers to group companies in Thailand by the end of fiscal year 2010, with the aim at strengthening and expanding this side of its business. The Matsuyama plant will function as a research and development base, while plants at Tokuyama and Iwakuni, both in Yamaguchi, will focus on high-value-added polyester fibre products.
