TMC launches certified, traceable, non-mulesed merino

The Merino Company (TMC), a Melbourne-based organisation that markets wool and wool products on behalf of growers in a number of countries, is claiming that a new, certified and traceable non-mulesed merino wool brand platform that it has launched is a world first.

The wool for the programme is sourced from growers who have a commitment to animal welfare. They must either have changed their practices and stopped mulesing sheep (removing strips of skin from around the breech of a sheep) or never used the practice in the first place.

William Lempriere, chief executive of TMC said: “We understand our customers’ requirements for merino products that are of the right quality, while also satisfying core values of animal welfare, environmental and social responsibility. We work directly with dedicated woolgrowers around the world enabling us to source exactly the right quality and quantity of certified and traceable non-mulesed merino products, from greasy wool, yarn, and fabric, right through to finished garments.”

All wool entering the the programme must have legal declarations from the relevant body or wool grower and supporting verifications from a third
party. TMC will process the wool separately, maintaining the integrity of batches throughout.
