Super-fine wool in demand
12/08/2009
A specialist wool growers’ group in New Zealand, the Saxmere Group, has said that demand in the international market for the super-fine wool it produces is building up. They group works exclusively with wool from a breed of sheep called the Saxon.
The positive result seems to be ins spite of a fall in the number of growers still active in New Zealand, which has fallen from 70 when the group started out to just 12 today.
Peter Radford, managing director of Escorial Limited, a company that works to market the wool, has told Radio New Zealand that demand for super-fine wool among leading fabric makers across the world is greater than for merino wool.
