Textile industry technology provider Lectra hosted a special event in London for the apparel industry in mid-August.

The workshop, called
‘Cutting costs while improving product availability – an impossible dream?’ attracted a wide range of industry players, who went along to discuss design and product development challenges and how companies can cut costs without sacrificing product quality.

Fashion designer Maria Grachvogel, industry expert Malcolm Ball and Neil Clarke of Clarks International were invited to share their vision of the fashion market and how they see technology helping apparel professionals to overcome challenges, such as the need to increase profitability, save costs and set themselves apart from the competition.

The subject of product lifecycle management software was covered by Judy Gnaedig, director of strategic projects for fashion at Lectra, who
explained how current market pressures and consumer demands are changing retailer and brand working practices. She described how these pressures reflect complex processes and are not alleviated by the tools that most designers have at their disposal. “Too much time is currently spent on complex admin tasks. This in turn leads to global performance issues, limited information accessibility, low satisfaction and miscommunication”, she said.
