China imported 131,400 tonnes of cotton in July, 22% less than a month earlier, according to statistics released by the customs authorities.
In the first seven months this year, China imported 866,000 tonnes of cotton, a 40% fall year on year.
However, China exported $16.37 billion worth of textiles and apparel in July, which represents an increase of 17.4% from a month earlier.
Year-to-date exports are down 11.2%, but the July figure will provide hope that things may be turning around for the industry there.
