Break for the border

21/08/2009

According to reports, the Russian government has decided to stop carrying out full inspections of Turkish trucks passing into Russia. Turkish exporters are said to be delighted.

Seemingly overzealous inspections have reportedly caused goods to be delayed by more than 45 days and this has made it difficult for Turkish exporters fulfil their order obligations. It is hoped the decision will lead to an increase in textile trade between the two nations.

However, Turkish exporters continue to complain about the high taxes they have to pay when crossing into Russia.
Reports indicate that Turkish textile and clothing exports to
Russia fell 58% in 2008. It is hoped the more relaxed attitude will help to reverse this decline.
