The board of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) has approved new student chapters for Texas State and the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) in Lima, Peru.

The two newly established AATCC student chapters will promote international product development expertise.

The AATCC chapter at Texas state is planning a trip to Peru in 2011. In the meantime, it plans to collaborate with UNMSM students to raise funds for activities. One such collaboration will be a denim drive during the Sustainability of Textiles Year during the 2010-11 school year.

“Getting an understanding of all areas of the textile supply chain will help the students succeed in the industry,” said Gwendolyn Hustvedt, assistant professor and faculty advisor of the Texas State chapter. “We intend to demonstrate a new model of involvement in the textile industry for university students and AATCC student chapters, in the United States and globally.”
