AAFA amends Restricted Substances List

The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) has published the fifth edition of the AAFA Restricted Substances List (RSL), covering apparel, footwear and home textiles. The list, together with a growing set of other chemical management tools, can be downloaded for free at the AAFA website (www.apparelandfootwear.org/).
“For the U.S. apparel and footwear industry to remain globally competitive, especially in a down market, our supply chain must be as efficient as possible,” said AAFA president and CEO, Kevin Burke. “Of all the helpful tools in the AAFA arsenal, this list has quickly emerged as an industry must-have because AAFA’s RSL helps the industry comply with today’s regulations while equipping the industry with the information they need to meet the challenges of tomorrow.”
He adds: “This updated RSL will continue to eliminate regulatory confusion from our manufacturing processes,” Burke said. “With the recent enforcement of new lead limits on August 14 brought about by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and a positive shift toward environmental stewardship in our industry’s culture, the timing of this new list could not be more perfect.”
“As production methods and government regulations continue to change, and often at varying speeds, the AAFA RSL continues to provide our global industry with the right information to keep us productive, competitive, and compliant,” said AAFA environmental committee chairman, John Eapen, vice president of environmental, health and safety at America & Efird, Inc.
