Help for Indian textile exporters
28/08/2009
The textile sector is one of several that is to benefit from new incentives introduced by the Indian government. Commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma has said the government wants to give exporters a stronger foothold in existing export markets as well as opening up new markets.
The foreign trade policy will help companies upgrade the technology, and will cut transaction costs. Zero-duty imports have been introduced for sectors including textiles, leather and chemicals until March 2011.
A new target for total exports has been set at $200 billion for 2010-11 and the government believes exports could double by 2014. The target for this year is $168 billion.
