Textiles lead India's industrial production growth

India’s industrial production rose 6.8% in July compared with July 2008 figures, according to the Central Statistical Organisation.

Growth for the period April-July was at 4.6% compared with the corresponding period of the pervious year.

Statistics show that 15 of the 17 industry groups covered showed positive growth in July. The highest growth was recorded for the wool, silk and manmade fibre textiles sector, with a rise of 30.4%. However, production of jute and other vegetable fibre textiles fell 23.9% and cotton textile production fell 0.4%.
