Activewear manufacturer Hanesbrands is to test its Champion and Duofold apparel products in the toughest conditions culminating in a Mount Everest climb.

Expedition Hanesbrands: Climb With Us will be led by international mountaineer and motivational speaker Jamie Clarke and will begin next month with a training climb of Mount Pumori in Nepal. The team will test the brands’ latest apparel including socks, base layers, insulating layers, and soft- and hard-shell garments. In January 2010, Hanesbrands plans to unveil a summit suit designed to keep the team warm and mobile in the high winds and severe cold on the highest reaches of Everest.

The Champion brand was founded in 1919 and offers a wide range of products including team uniforms and performance apparel. Duofold, founded in 1906, produces high-performance base layer apparel, which has been used in high-altitude mountaineering expeditions since the time of the first Everest ascent.
