A student design featuring Invista’s Cordura fabric scooped first prize in the recent American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) 2009 Materials Design Competition.

The winning team at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, received the $1,000 first prize for its Temp-A-Tote, a bag designed to help protect valuable items from harsh conditions. The bag uses 500-denier Cordura Classic fabric and a phase-change material to protect portable electronics from extreme heat and cold.

Elizabeth Hathaway, a member of the winning team, said:  “We feel the materials used helped make a winning combination to protect valuable electronic items. Moreover, the use of Cordura brand fabric was essential to extend the life of our product.”
