Dow Corning to present Active Protection System innovations
06/10/2009
Dow Corning Corporation’s Impact Protection business development manager, Dr Liz Mallen, will present an update on the company’s Active Protection System at the Technical Textiles symposium, which takes place in Edinburgh on October 15–16.
The company launched the system, which focuses on a patented impact protection textile Dow Corning believes can replace traditional hard-armour systems by delivering comfortable protection in a versatile form, in 2006 and Dr Mallen gave a presentation on it at a previous conference, in Prague in 2007. This time, the title of her talk will be: ‘Two Years on New Learnings, New Challenges, New Opportunities and Two New Technology Platforms’.
Developments include new applications in sports, medical, personal protective equipment and luggage.
In the build-up to the event, Dr Mallen said: “The new products—seven in total—are flexible, breathable, washable and offer great impact protection. Overall, designers are getting far more choice. Unlike bulky hard-armour systems, our Active Protection System silicone technologies are very comfortable to wear in terms of fit, freedom of movement and breathability.”
