Footwear sourcing centres on hold
07/10/2009
Footwear manufacturers in Indonesia are going to have to wait until next year for planned raw material centres to be built because of budget constraints that the country's industry ministry is facing.
The new supply centres, which will allow footwear companies to source all the materials they need under one roof, were supposed to be up and running before the end of 2009, but Eddy Widjanarko, chairman of the Indonesian Footwear Producers Association (Aprisindo), has told local media that this will now be impossible.
He said: "We've held a series of intensive meetings with industry ministry officials, but the ministry has no money to support our plans. We're disappointed."
He said his association would now wait until next year to push again for funding of up to $500,000 subsidise the idea.
