Nike has named Michaela Stitz as its new vice-president for central and eastern Europe. She will take responsibility for driving growth for the company in this part of Europe, replacing Marc van Pappelendam, who recently took up a similar role for Nike in Ireland and the UK.

The company’s president of global operations, Gary De Stefano, commented: “Michaela is an experienced and highly successful Nike leader with diverse commercial and management skills. She has the passion to drive the business strategy in this territory with the necessary focus and direction to achieve our aggressive growth goals for the geography.”

Ms Stitz started her Nike career in 1996 and set up the equipment business for the company in Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia and Croatia. In 1998 she became footwear business director, and then general manager for Nike Austria, Slovenia and Croatia in 2002. She moved on to become sales director for Nike Germany. After taking a career-break, she returned to Nike 18 months ago to become general manager for Austria, Germany, Slovenia and Switzerland.

She will take up her new role on November 1.
