Indian aims to be more competitive in artificial fibres

India's textiles minister, Dayanidhi Maran, has said that a workgroup has been formed to develop a national policy on fibres, which he expects to be complete by the end of this year.

"Hopefully, by the end of this year, a comprehensive policy on all fibres will be in place," Mr Maran said at a textile industry seminar in Kolkata.

He said duty on artificial fibres will be reduced to help Indian exporters become more competitive in the international market. In India, manmade fibres make up 40% of the industry while natural fibres constitute the other 60%.
