Zimbabwean textile firm to close
12/10/2009
Reports from Africa suggest that Zimbabwe’s largest textile company, David Whitehead Textiles, which manufactures textiles, and prints and dyes fabrics, is to close.
A total of 1,400 jobs are at risk.
The company, filed for provisional liquidation with Zimbabwe’s High Court, saying that it would no longer, be able to pay wages, as the National Employment Council for the textile industry increased salaries by 66%.
Other factors such as increased electricity costs and competition from cheaper imported fabrics also increased the company’s problems.
