Scotland’s first minister, Alex Salmond, has told the new Chinese owners of traditional cashmere spinning firm Todd & Duncan, that their investment in the company represents a display of confidence in the Scottish economy.

The Ningxia Zhongyin Cashmere Company bought Todd & Duncan from previous owners, Dawson International, in June. Its chairman, Ma Shengguo, travelled to Scotland on 13 October. On greeting him, Mr Salmond said he was delighted that the future of one of Scotland’s leading textile manufacturers and the jobs of 200 highly skilled employees had been secured.
