India to demand guarantees over organic

Indian will expand a process for certifying all organic products to textiles from July 2010.

A system of traceability for organic food will apply from January 1, but it will also come into force for textiles and clothing from July, whether they originate from India or from overseas.

Any piece of fabric or clothing claiming to be organic will bear a special new logo confirming its organic status. Suppliers will have to offer the authorities in India sufficient traceability to justify the logo.
