Farmers move north to grow fibres

The government of the Republic of the Congo in west Africa has announced that it has set aside 200,000 hectares of land that it intends to lease for 30 years to farmers from South Africa.
The South African farmers will take over the land and work to boost the country’s output of fibre and food.
Congolese officials have told the BBC that the land is made up of abandoned farms that the state used to operate. Agriculture minister, Rigobert Mabundu, said: “We import a lot and it’s not normal that, with the resources at our disposal, we remain food insecure.”
