Adidas to put ion-mask into golf shoes
21/10/2009
Sports brand adidas has announced that it will incorporate the ion-mask footwear technology from UK company P2i into two of the new styles that will feature in its spring-summer 2010 golf shoe collection.
The German company has said that it may use ion-mask—which uses a special nano-coating to make the whole shoe, including stitching, waterproof without compromising breathability—more extensively in future collections in 2010 and 2011.
The director of footwear development at adidas Golf, Marco Grott, commented on announcing the development: “Ion-mask provides extraordinary benefits for our customers and for us as a company. As performance-transforming technology, it’s the natural complement to our existing state-of-the-art product features, plus P2i has done its homework to ensure that deployment into manufacturing is smooth and efficient.”
P2i’s chief technology officer, Dr Stephen Coulson, said the new agreement constituted “an extremely powerful endorsement and validation” of the technology.
