Decathlon to open first store in Tianjin
22/10/2009
Sporting goods manufacturer and retailer Decathlon is preparing to open its first store in the Chinese city of Tianjin.
The new outlet will be in the Promenades shopping mall in the city's Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) free market zone and will cover an area of 4,000 square-metres.
Store manager He Ming has told local media that 80% of the products in the new store will be own-brand, but that Decathlon will also seek to meet the high demand among Chinese consumers for goods from brands such as adidas, Puma and Nike. The store will also have its own ice-rink and golf-range. Golf is the fastest growing sport in China at the moment.
Decathlon entered the Chinese market in 1992 and, with the Tianjin outlet, will soon have a retail presence in ten cities there, as well as 10 production plants across the country.
