First Oeko-Tex meeting in Beijing goes ahead

Oeko-Tex testing institute managers held their first ever meeting in Beijing on October 21 and 22.
The agenda focused on resolutions regarding a new version of the Oeko-Tex criteria catalogue which comes into effect in January.
The organisation, which aims to give consumers confidence that the textile products they buy are safe, chose the location to reflect the strong growth in Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certificates that Chinese textile and clothing manufacturers are experiencing at the moment.
According to Oeko-Tex general secretary, Raimar Freitag, the number of Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certificates continues to grow across the globe. Almost 10,000 certificates for textile products at all processing stages were issued in 2008, the highest annual figure to date, and an increase of 11% on the previous year. Strong increases have been registered in Asian countries and Asia displaced Europe as the region with the most Oeko-Tex certificates in 2008. China now
