Mitsubishi increases PTA capacity in India

The Indian subsidiary of the Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) is aiming to treble its turnover in India to $1.25 billion next financial year (2010–11), the company has told media there.

It has completed the second phase of capacity addition at its purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in Haldia, West Bengal, adding 800,000 tonnes production capacity of PTA per annum, to the existing annual capacity of 4.7 million tonnes.

PTA is a
basic building block in the production of polyester staple fibre, polyester filament yarn, PET bottles, and other articles of everyday use.
