Specialist in swimwear fabric chooses Biophyl

Italian manufacturer of fabrics for swimwear Carvico is now featuring
warp-knitted fabrics made from Advansa’s Biophyl fibre in its range.

Active in the swimwear sector for more than 40 years, Carvico more recently launched a scheme called ‘Green Vision’, emphasising its commitment to environmentally responsible procedures in all areas of the company. In keeping with this, it has launched a new fabric called Amazzonia, made with Advansa’s Biophyl, which has ‘Green Vision’ on the label.

Biophyl is able to make a contribution to Carvico’s initiative because it is made from eco-polyester yarns based on an innovative polyester polymer PTT, (polytrimethylene-terephtalate). In Biophyl, the petrol-based glycol normally used in polyester yarns is replaced with Bio-PDO, which is obtained from corn sucrose. In Biophyl, 37% of the polymer used is from this renewable raw material. In comparison to nylon (which is often used in swimwear), the CO2 output associated with the production of the polymer is 63% lower. This contributes to Carvico’s efforts to reduce its carbon emissions and also allows it to make a saving of up to 30% in energy consumption.

Advansa says these yarns also guarantee “an exceptionally high colour brilliance, feel and softness and give the fabrics excellent stretch and recovery properties”.

Amazzonia also offers a high level of resistance to UV rays, chlorine and perspiration which ensures colours stay vibrant for longer. The fabric is also easy-care and quick drying.

Luciano Colasanto, a marketing manager at Advansa who has been deeply involved in bringing Biophyl to the market, said on announcing the development with Carvico: “More and more textile brands would like to contribute to using raw materials in a more sustainable way. Carvico has recognised this development and is tapping both the ecological and performance potential of
Biophyl to respond to the growing global trend amongst end consumers towards eco-sustainable quality products, which are not only environmentally friendly, but also demonstrate the same, if not better, functional properties than standard products.”

For his part, Lorenzo Ghezzi, Carvico’s export manager, said: “With our new fabric, Amazzonia, we now have an ecological textile product that not only coincides with our efforts to offer our customers high-quality fabrics with exceptional performance characteristics, but also our desire for more environmentally responsible procedures in all areas of the company, which is documented by our ‘Green Vision’ scheme.”
