Peru to develop Fair Trade textiles

The Andean Development Corporation (CAF) and the Peruvian Commission for Export and Tourism Promotion (ProPeru) have announced that they will work together to promote Fair Trade textiles in the South American country.

CAF director Eleonora Silva Pardo said the two organisations would commission Italian consultants from Consorcio B&C-Altromercato to help it deliver training, education, and technical assistance to around 60 textile companies in Lima, Arequipa, Puno, Ayacucho and Junín. One of the aims, she said, was to create a Fair Trade certification label for the Peruvian textile sector.
