High school athlete's rule-book misery

29/10/2009

A high school athletics team in Baltimore won a local championship on October 27, but the victory was short lived after one of its runners was disqualified because of the stitching in the compression shorts he wore under his uniform.

The Hereford High School Bulls cross country team came first in the Baltimore County boys' championship, but one of its athletes, who had made an important contribution to the team's points total by finishing fourth in the race, was later disqualified because the stitching on the black shorts he was wearing was white.

When the team scores were recalculated, his team ended up in third position.

To have visible stitching of a different colour on such garments is a breach of the National Federation of High Schools rule book.
