American football star invests in sock company

Tennessee-based apparel company Elicit Brands, which produces the Swiftwick brand of moisture-wicking compression sports socks, has announced that it has secured extra investment from Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Derrick Mason.
The company already supplies almost 200 sports retailers across the US and has won customers among participants in a wide range of sports. The extra investment should help it expand further.
Made from a blend of merino wool and olefin fibre, the socks have a compression cuff to stop them from falling down, a Y-heel for better fit, a full-cushion footbed and no-seam features to prevent friction on the toes.
Derrick Mason said on announcing his investment in the company that he had taken the decision to do so because he finds the socks "addictive".
“It’s simple,” he said. “Just wear a pair of Swiftwick socks and you instantly recognise something special. It seemed like an outrageous claim at first, their promise that this would be the best sock you’ve ever worn, but then I put them on. They’re simply addictive.”
In response, Elicit Brands chief executive, Mark Cleveland, said: "When a superstar like Derrick Mason becomes your partner it’s something you celebrate, not because of what he does, but because of who he is. He’s a professional, a great personality and a one-man proving ground for awesome socks.”
