Textiles become Vietnam’s top export
According to Vietnam’s statistics office, the country’s textile and garment exports totalled $7.5 billion during the first ten months of the year, exceeding crude oil exports to become the country’s top export sector for the first time.
Estimates suggest textile and garment segment revenues for the year will total $9.3, up 3% year-on-year, providing existing contracts are honoured. Some experts think the figure could be even higher.
Reports indicate that exports to emerging markets could account for 5% of the sector’s overall textile and garment revenues. The country hopes to record earning s of at least $10 billion in 2010 and between $16 and $18 billion by 2015.
