Intertextile organisers pleased with turnout

According to Messe Frankfurt, the organiser of Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics which ran October 21-23, the event was a success and attracted a large number of visitors.

Estimates that 2,300 exhibitors would attend were beaten, with 2,459 national and international suppliers participating. This represents an 8% increase compared with last year’s event. Almost 70% of the 716 international suppliers were return exhibitors, and there were special pavilions from Germany, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and Turkey. A number of fibre companies including Invista, the Cotton Council International, Dow Fiber, the Lenzing Group and Hyosung were also part of a pavilion at the fair.

Nearly 54,000 trade buyers came from more than 90 countries and regions to source the latest apparel fabrics and textile-related products across 10 halls. Around 30% more foreign buyers attended Intertextile compared with 2008 figures. The top five visiting countries and regions were Hong Kong, Japan, Korean, Taiwan and the US, with special delegations from Brazil, the UAE and Thailand also in attendance.

During a press conference prior to the show, Du Yu Zhou, president of the China National & Textile Apparel Council, said: “China is an essential location for the textile industry and this is clearly indicated in the phenomenal technological and brand advancements throughout the region. As a result there are now numerous opportunities for business in this thriving market sector.”
