New OIA board members chosen

The Outdoor Industries Association (OIA) has appointed a new board of directors, following its conversion into a company limited by guarantee. The company’s aim for the board is that it fully represents the UK outdoor industries, with members from across the sector.

New board members include Sarah Wilson, marketing director at Berghaus, and Ken Reeve, buying and merchandising director at Cotswold Outdoor.

Frank Bennett has stepped down as chairman, having held the position over the last few years during a very difficult and transitional period. Corry Taylor, managing director at Bradshaw Taylor, was unanimously voted in as the new chairman of the board and Chris Tiso, chief executive of the Tiso Group, was elected as vice-chairman.

Mr Taylor said: “The board brings a wealth of experience and influence to the table and all have committed their valuable time to ensure that the OIA succeeds in its goals of not only unifying the industry, but giving it a stronger position within the wider UK market and further afield.

“I am delighted to have been elected to the role of chairman and look forward to working with chief executive Louise Ramsay and the rest of the board. We will build on the gathering momentum at the OIA and deliver more and better benefits, more substantial market intelligence and greater political influence for our members and the sector as a whole. Crucially, we will develop initiatives and communications to encourage more people to enjoy healthy, active lifestyles through outdoor activities, with the resulting increase in demand for suitable equipment, clothes, holidays and clubs.

“I would like to pay tribute to my predecessor Frank Bennett, who was chairman of the OIA Council during some very challenging years. Frank has contributed a huge amount to the association and has successfully overseen its transformation into a more dynamic organisation, fit for purpose in the 21st century.”
