TenCate Protective Fabrics has decided to launch new fabrics from its Defender M collection at Milipol Paris, which runs November 17-20.

The Defender M range can be used in protective clothing for special police units, for example for riot police and arrest squads. The fabrics are inherently heat- and flame-resistant as well as being comfortable to wear.

DM 9180 is the latest addition to the collection. It is a lightweight fabric with antistatic characteristics, weighing 180 g/m². The material is best suited for use in the protective clothing of air-force pilots.

The Defender M fabrics are also now available in two- and three-layer PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) laminate, weighing either 220 g/m² or 280 g/m². Some of the fabrics in the range contain Hydro-Control and Hydro-Control Triple, making them waterproof and water vapour permeable as well as flame-resistant and antistatic.

Robert Brinks, business development manager at TenCate Protective Fabrics, said: “The products from the TenCate Defender M collection are extremely strong and durable. These inherently flame-resistant fabrics provide the greatest possible protection against a flashover. The fabric is cooling, breathable and extremely comfortable, thanks to the high percentage of Lenzing FR fibres it contains. A number of armies and police forces in Europe are currently showing interest in these fabrics and various wearer trials have already been started”.
