Sporting goods giant Nike has appointed Phyllis Wise to its board of directors.

Ms Wise is executive VP and provost at the University of Washington as well as being professor of physiology and biophysics, biology, obstetrics and gynaecology. She has been a faculty member at many prominent research universities, first joining the University of Maryland School of Medicine, then the University of Kentucky and the University of California Davis. She is also an elected member of the National Academies Institute of Medicine.
