New Invista legwear trends for 2010-2011

Invista has unveiled a range of new legwear fashion directions for 2010-11. According to the polymer expert, which owns the Lycra brand, consumers are still looking for durable and long-lasting fashion, but also want novelty items that help them stand out from the crowd.

The first trend is Fast Track, featuring “outspoken” cut or rounded shapes. Fabrics are robust, including wool, compact wovens and felt, with skinny trousers and short skirts. The leg trends match the look with graphic opaque and sheer contrasts. Legwear will feature bold stripes and cut-outs and colours will include grey, black and white as well as Mondrian-inspired brights.

The second fashion direction, Glitz and Glam, is influenced by 1980s disco and science fiction, with exaggerated shapes for “modern fashion divas”. It features dresses with either full or skin-tight skirts. Sprayed on skinny pants and liquid leggings with high-gloss and metallic surfaces will also dominate. Legwear will feature sequins and jewels, ripped and torn ‘punk’ elements, lace and graphic mesh. Key colours include black and silver.

The third look, Nature’s Traces, has jungle elements from reptilian and wildlife skin imitations to refined organic spider web looks. Fabrics include wool, cotton, suede and ‘liquid’ leather. Legwear will feature reptilian and spider web patterns with leotards to match. Colours include black, grey, copper and brown.

The Seduction trend is opulent with the corset acting as a centrepiece. Dresses are important, including slinky, sleeveless numbers and extravagantly draped garments. Fabrics are rich and sumptuous, including soft velvets and rich liquid satins. Transparency is also key, veiling the body with gauzy chiffons and light lace. Legwear features fine lace and colours include sensual reds, lavender and blue.

The next trend, Strong Contrasts features enlarged ornamental motifs such as giant paisley patterns. Invista describes it as “cartoonesque with a playful twist”. The matching leg trends are designed to be eye-catching statement pieces rather than accessories with two-tone effects and black and white playing an important role.

Finally, Bodypump is designed to represent a healthy body and mind using skin-friendly, high-performance materials. Legwear comes in matt fabrics and offers layering for added comfort and a sporty feel. Colours include cool neutrals and vivid brights.
