Cascade Designs wins Derryck Draper award
Seattle-based outdoor equipment manufacturer Cascade Designs has been awarded the Derryck Draper Award for Innovation.
The company was given the award for its Therm-a-Rest NeoAir mattress by the UK-based Outdoor Writers’ and Photographers’ Guild (OWPG).
Launched in early 2009, the mattress is a compact, three-season air mattress that provides warmth and comfort without the added weight of insulation. It packs to the size of a one litre-bottle and the regular size weighs just 14 ounces (397 grams).
It uses a Reflective Barrier to keep the user warm by reflecting heat back to the body and blocking cold from the ground. It also features Triangular Core Matrix technology, which contributes to the warmth by creating a large number of air cells that minimise air movement and convective cooling. This matrix also creates an internal truss system that is said to improve stability and comfort.
